U-joints lubrication

Important

U-joints with alemites are supplied without grease. The existing grease inside their trays only serves to keep the rollers in position and facilitate assembly. When you change a u-jonit, it is necessary that you lubricate it before starting the vehicle. Before mounting it on the component, remove the 4 cups and lubricate only the u-joint body. This guarantees that there is no air inside the lubrication channels, facilitating the passage of grase through the seals. When you do the greasing, make the new grease come out through the 4 retainers of u-joints. If this does not happen, move the cardan in the direction of rotation, seeking to force the u-joints in axial direction and repeat the lubrication.

U-joints must be lubricated with EP2 type grase, based on lithium soap + extreme pressure additive, consistency grade 2, in accordance with the NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute), at regular intervals every 1 month or every 5,000 / 8,000 km. (The thing that happens first).

U-Joints Lubrication

1 | For proper lubrication, old grease must be purged (expelled). If grease does not purge through the seals, you must loosen the fixing screws.

2 | In the case of u-joints that have a terminal with a clamp and/or fork with a locking plate or locking ring type retention system, the elements must be loosened if the grease does not purge.

3 | If the cardan shaft does not purge, hit the fork with a plastic hammer to relieve the fixing pressure of the locking plate. Rotate the cardan half a turn and repeat the operation.

4 | If the purge still does not occur, loosen the screws and remove the lock plate from the side of the cardan fork eyelet and lubricate until the purge is obtained.
